Donald Trump has bizarrely suggested that the FBI sought Hillary Clinton’s emails while searching his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

“There doesn’t have to be a process [in declassifying documents]… I declassified everything,” the former president said in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday, when asked if there was a process for declassifying documents.

The former president went on to suggest that a federal agency may be looking for Clinton’s emails.

“There’s also a lot of speculation because of what they did, the seriousness of the FBI coming in and the Mar-a-Lago raid. Were they looking for Hillary Clinton’s emails that were deleted but are out there somewhere? Maybe they thought he was in there!” Mr. Trump said.

Earlier this month, Mrs Clinton said “every American should be concerned” about classified documents seized at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in August.

In another bizarre claim made during the interview, Mr Trump said US presidents could declassify documents just by “thinking about it”.

The former president also claimed that FBI agents took his last will and testament during a search of his office.

“They took a lot. I think they took my will. I found out yesterday,” he said.

A clip from an interview with Sean Hannity has been widely circulated on social media, prompting users to come up with their best quips to mock the former president.

“Omg another one it’s getting funnier and funnier I’m dying!!” said one user.

Another mocked him by saying:

“AMTA Public Service Announcement. The American Association for Magical Thinking has added this presidential edict to its rules: If you are the President of the United States, you can declassify even by thinking about it. This comes right after the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy,” said another user.

The interview came after New York’s attorney general accused the Trump Organization of inflating his net worth by billions of dollars and habitually defrauding banks.

Letitia James also named his three grown children, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump, as defendants in her lawsuit.

In the interview, Mr. Trump blamed the banks for relying on his own figures to estimate taxes on his business.
