Over the summer, videos of actor Tom Hardy competing in martial arts appeared on TikTok, seemingly doing very well and eventually winning the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Wolverhampton. This week, Hardy won his matches in another tournament.
Hardy, a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who trains at Roger Gracie Affiliated Schools, competed in the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship, which is part of the Ultimate Martial Arts Championships at Oakgrove School in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England.
Decked out in a blue gi, The Warrior and Mad Max: Fury Road star battled several opponents and ended up winning all of his matches. Hardy’s Certificate of Achievement was awarded under Edward Hardy, his name as the actor goes by his middle name professionally.
I’m talking to The Guardiana championship spokesperson called Hardy a really nice guy and it was a real pleasure to host their tournament this year.
“Everyone recognized him, but he was very humble and happy to take time for people to take pictures with him,” the spokesman said. “It was a real pleasure to have him compete in our event.”
Preparation for the film Warrior back in 2011, Hardy broke down his schedule and training regimen and how he prepared his body for the role. He would retain his bulging physique for 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises playing the Bat-Nemesis, Bane.
“I did two hours of boxing a day, two hours of muay thai, two hours of jiu-jitsu, then two hours of choreography and two hours of weightlifting seven days a week for three months,” Hardy said. “You have to really want to do it, so it was a challenge.”
